Walpole Historical Society Announces Summer Hours
Walpole, NH, June 6, 2009 –The Museum of the Walpole Historical Society in the Academy on Main Street is now open for the season, June through the first week in October, from 1-3 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
New exhibits, culled from the Society’s extensive collections by curators Carol Christian and Dutchie Perron, feature stages in Walpole’s history keyed to information in a forthcoming book, Walpole, to be published soon by Arcadia Press. Some items depict Walpole’s early businesses – shirt manufacturing, the tourist trade, railroads, livery stables, and blacksmiths. There is an early tax roll, books printed in Walpole at the turn of the 19th century, an American Indian beaded costume, and enchanting period costumes. The Museum Gift Shop is also open, offering many unique items, several made by local artisans.
This summer WHS members Peter and Jeanne Jeffries, who are experts in the field of genealogy, will conduct a series of classes on how to discover family origins and identify branches of the family tree. Where to look first? How to gather necessary information before you begin? What are the best sources for research?
