Opinion: Rules--and Values--of the Blog
Post a comment (login required)
Long-term readers of The Walpolean know that I have vacilated on whether to require Comments to be signed before I'll let them remain on the site.  In theory I think all Commenters should sign their names and be personally accountable for what they put into cyberspace. At the same time I favor full, responsible public discussion of all important issues, and I have generally allowed non-signed postings to stand. I still argue that a signed posting has more credibility than an unsigned posting, and I reserve the right to delete any posting that I see as a personal attack, scurrilous or defaming.  Chuck Bingaman  (And, I welcome your thoughts/suggestions on these approaches!)  Chuck Bingaman

I very much agree with your policy, Chuck. I do think all postings should be signed for the reason you state. Thanks also for running this town blog and I hope more people join it. It is a great service to all of us. Mel Schupack

Absolutely agree with signing ones comments. If one has the guts to say they should have the guts to sign it. Just for those not sure - Bill M is Bill Moses

Chuck- I think you have done an excellent job. I am personally somewhat hesitant about posting because I am not really a Walpole resident. I grew up in Walpole and my mom still lives there and runs a business, and someday I should like to be able to live in Walpole. Being being in my 20's and single, Walpole doesn't offer much that an actual working human being can afford. Pisses me off a bit actually. Walpole really isn't the town I grew up in anymore, and certainly not the same town that my grandfather built his house in back in '42.

And Walpole misses hard working young men like Dan as well as young women who have left town to pursue their careers. Dan was alway a gentleman and an asset to Walpole as is his mother. But like he says, young people, as well as some of us older low income people, can't afford Walpole anymore! Bill Moses

Re: Opinion: Rules--and Values--of the Blog
Thank you Bill, I appreciate it. My best friend would love to move back to Walpole as well... he is married with three children, and would prefer Walpole schools to Keene schools. But what can he afford either? Of all this subdivision that D&D propose, how much do you want to bet the lots themselves will be $150k+?? Added of course to crazy property taxes (though I will be the first to say Walpole is no where near as bad as Keene!). Just my 2ยข (I seem to have a lot of them.... maybe I need a jar to put them in so someday I will actually have some wealth???) -Dan Deering
