Town Restructures Intersection at Old North Main and North Roads

Have you checked out the new intersection where Old Drewsville Road angles off from Old North Main and North Road comes in from the east?  The two little islands have now been combined, and speed signs and stop signs are coming to slow traffic in the area.  It's an experimental solution to see how it works before  making it--or some other--approach permanent.  Those living at the intersection have been concerned with speeding in the area and, although there apparently has not yet been an accient in the intersection, there have been near misses and some speeders have driven out of the road and over some lawns recently.  The Selectmen would be interested in Walpole citizens' responses to the new approach after we have some experience with it. Ah, we are getting the problems of a town growing more than we might want! How about going back to dirt roads to slow things down again?

I travel thrugh this intersection sometimes several times a day and I can tell you I'm very pleased that something is to be done about it. I creep through craning my neck to make sure I can see all the possibilities coming at me, but many do not. I'm not sure what is being construted exactly, but an extra stop sigh alone would make a difference. Pam Bernard
