Walpole Spring Cleaning!
Let's all do a little road work...

Here's an idea we could all take up!  Cindy Westover reminds us that "our town would look nicer if everyone took a garbage bag with them when they walked and picked up the trash.  Walkers could do a different road each week.  I got 19 bags on County Road from Prospect Hill to Kingsbury Road.  It's disgusting.  Already there is trash back where I just cleaned.  VERY ANNOYING!!  Maybe we should have fines for those persons caught throwing out trash."

Thanks for reminder, Cindy! I will take my bag with me on Wentworth from now on when I walk to town. It needs it! (And I would not hesitate to report license numbers of those I seeing littering.)  Chuck Bingaman

Fines for littering are already in place but police have to see the littering happening unless of course it is a garbage bag with personal papers enclosed. The usual comment when reporting this "crime" is that they(police) did not witness it. Carry your camera with you, you know better than anyone that a picture is worth a thousand words. Bill Moses

Re: Walpole Spring Cleaning!
I think Cindy and Chuck are right. Maybe we should all get together for a 'Spring Clean Up Walpole' day. Meet at the post office, hand out big trash bags, give out a route, assign partners and go for a specified amount of hours. Maybe Burdicks would consider handing out a free coffee for each bag of collected trash? If anyone wants to do it, give me a call - 756-4861. Tara Sad

Re: Walpole Spring Cleaning!
Great idea - but I've picked up Wentworth Hill on my daily walk for years - it's never-ending. One guy is a "ritual litterer" - he tosses one empty Bud can and four lottery tickets, folded together and ripped halfway, at about the same spot at least once a week. As far as "catching" someone - be careful, people called on their littering can be very nasty!
